It’d stem from the idea that all of the matter, energy, atoms… whatever smallest common denominator you were comprised of, is now being released back into the pool of the universe.
Recall middle school science teaching us that these building blocks cannot be created nor destroyed, only transformed from one form to another, a la the conversation of mass.
Or the saying, for we are dust, and to dust we shall return. The Bible’s version of it.
A specific combination of these bits melded together to create you as you were. As it has happened once, such suggests a tiny possibility that the same perfect combination of bits, stuff that will always be available as they cannot be created or destroyed, could come back together to give you life again. They could have many years ago as well.
But if this were actually possible, I’d have to be alive still or luck out and be put back together during the lifetime you’ve returned. We’d also have to be the same general vicinity, let alone the same planet, in this infinite space, for us to enjoy each other’s company like we used to.
Maybe all we need are the bits that are our consciousness, just piloting a new body.
Would that include memories?
Well, since things in nature adapt, with genes ever learning and evolving with successful generations, wouldn’t those embedded instincts, blueprints, and attributes that identify individual species be considered data stored from previous lives and preceding ancestors? A type of memory that is passed on?
If so, as long as we also have the part that stores our memories, hopefully we could remember our lives from centuries past, even though we’re not our old physical self.
Not to mention the chance our consciousness doesn’t necessarily have to return to a new body. The bits are now free and no longer confined to physical constraints.
What form would we take? What would our senses be? Where would such consciousness reside? Could we finally traverse the entire universe like in our dreams?
Whatever the case may be, you will be the first to find out.
When you get there, I’m sure you’ll find the best places to go for a walk. The best places to sniff out and mark your spots, albeit every handful of yards.
Keep the place nice and cozy for the rest of us. I hope to hear your welcome home barks when it’s my turn.
Until I get to see you again in our version of heaven,
Safe travels, and thank you.
